Street harassment in Oakland

Man yelled "motherf**king ch*nky halfbreed" as I walked past him on the street.

Almost Hit

Incident occurred in November 2016: 

I was crossing the street toward my law firm's office when suddenly a car drove up right beside me, almost hitting me. The man in the vehicle rolled down his window and shouted, "Go back to f**ing China!"

"How's that dog tasting?"

Incident occurred on January 20: 

While I was at the mall's food court, I saw a group of bros being generally rude, making sexual remarks about women and denigrating homosexuals. A Korean American sat a couple of tables away from them, and then the group of men started loudly talking about how they're going to "flood this chink's rice paddy." One of the guys goes over there and says, "Hey gook how's that dog tasting? Looks a little dry there!" He then proceeded to dump his Gatorade all over the guy's lunch and walks away laughing, telling the guy to go back to China.

I've never really seen anything like it, but I guess this is par for the course in Trump's America

"Go Back to Where You Came From"

Incident occurred January 16: 

I, a white woman, was walking to the neighborhood grocery store with my five-year-old Chinese American son, who was riding his scooter. A small dog ran up to my son, who told it to "go away." The dog's owner told me to "teach him some manners" and then turned to my son and yelled at him to "go back to where you came from!"

Verbal Assault at Whole Foods

Incident occurred in November 2016: 

I was driving out of a Whole Foods parking garage and as I was waiting for the gate to open, my payment got stuck in the machine. While this was happening, a man behind me started to scream at me, "F*ing Chinese bitch. Hurry the f**k up." In my 20 years of living in this country, I have never been verbally assaulted with racial slurs.

People "Like Us" Need to Leave the Country

This incident occurred on January 24:

While I was driving, I was cut off by two ladies in a Chevy. I honked at the car because they almost hit me. The driver rolled down her car window and started yelling at me and my kids, telling us to "go back to your country" and that her president will deport us. She said that we have no business being in "their" land and that people "like us" need to leave the country. I am a citizen of the USA and I pay my taxes. This is plain ignorance and road rage.

"Ching, ching, ching"

Incident occurred in October 2016: 

I was walking to the YMCA when a group of high school boys muttered "ching, ching, ching" under their breath, but just loud enough for me to hear. They were giggling. At this particular Y, there are a lot of Chinese speaking members, many of whom don't speak English. I guess these boys assumed I didn't speak English and wouldn't catch on to their blatant racism.

Milkshakes

Someone just poured milkshake on my car and took off while I was waiting for the light to turn. I didn't do anything abnormal. I was just listening to my Japanese song and singing while I was in traffic. 

"Do you know how to read English?"

My sister and my parents were walking on a trail in San Mateo County, California with our two service dogs Boba and Daisy. It was a popular trail on Christmas Day and the one and only ranger we saw on the trail greeted us and wished us Merry Christmas after we quickly notified him that our dogs were service dogs. The trail passed by a bench and as I got closer to the bench where two older white males were sitting and I could see were now staring at us.

As we get closer, one of the guys start yelling very loudly "Do you know how to read English? There are NO pets allowed." I respond politely "Yes- they are service dogs." He then yells back: "It doesn't matter if they're service animals, there are no pets allowed here and YOU don't look like you need any service." I yelled back "Mind your own business" and continued walking the trail fuming inside.

"I hate your f-ing race. We're in charge of this country now."

An Asian-American woman reported on November 23 that:

I was walking down Valencia in San Francisco around 7pm and this older White gentleman pretended to hit my head with the book in his hand. As he walked by- he yelled really loudly- "I hate your fucking race. We're in charge of this country now." He was not intoxicated.

Bike confrontation at Lake Merritt

Early after Trump was elected, a tall bald white Man approached me, a Chinese American Male, and got within 4" in my face yelling, "WE WON! WE WON!" and "Get the f**k out now, we own this country, ch*nk". I got on my bike and started to ride away and he proceeded to get in his white van and menacingly followed me. When we came to a light, he bumped my tire, causing me to be knocked off my bike and he yelled "Asians Gonna Die!" I'm Chinese but very much look, speak, and dress like your typical Californian. Lake Merritt is also a more gentrified area of Oakland and predominantly Asian, White, and Indian.

Kentucky Roommate

My roommate said the racial slur "ch*nk."
